After hosting the Golden Globe Awards for the second consecutive year, comedian Nikki Glaser stopped by The Howard Stern Show to reflect on the ceremony, her hosting approach, and the jokes that never made it on stage. Glaser received widespread praise for her performance, which balanced sharp humor with a careful awareness of the moment, steering clear of political commentary during a particularly charged period.
Speaking candidly with Stern, Glaser explained that political jokes simply didn’t feel right for this year’s Globes. Even light references to the current political climate felt misplaced, she said, making it difficult to strike a tone that would land as genuinely funny. As a result, several gags—including one referencing the sitting president—were cut, despite coming from respected comedy voices.
One of those discarded jokes had been suggested by comedy legend Steve Martin, who later agreed it was best left out. Glaser said both she and Martin felt the ceremony needed space from political tension, prioritizing levity and celebration over topical commentary. Still, she managed to deliver pointed humor elsewhere, including a well-received jab at the broadcast network during her monologue.
Beyond awards-show talk, Glaser used the interview to discuss her career path, personal life, and upcoming projects, including plans to write a film with producer Judd Apatow—who she once worked for as a babysitter years ago. She also shared several unused jokes with Stern, continuing what may become a post-Globes tradition, before returning to her current Las Vegas residency alongside David Spade.
